Every mechanic’s nightmare! At least it was mine when I was attending a vocational/technical high school for aircraft maintenance. There wasn’t a time I didn’t have something left over. Thank God for locker space right on the hangar floor. In retrospect, I guess that’s why I wound up as a munitions specialist … there weren’t very many parts on a 500 or 750 pounder! Screw in a couple of fuses, attach the coupler devices to them, slap on a fin and it was ready to rumble.

That reminded me of way back when I went through tech school at Chanute AFB. One of the guys in my class came over to me and asked me what he should do with some parts he had left over. My first thought was “what a dumbass.” What I did, though, was tell him to go ask the instructor for a ‘spare parts bag’ which he promptly did. I heard that instructor yelling at him on the other side of the hager about how he should NEVER have spare parts left over and I got a dirty look from the instructor for it too.
Hey OldMan … sounds like “tire kicker” school … 431????? I like that term, ‘spare parts bag’ … might have to use it for another mechanic related toon for another branch!!! Thanks for posting. Come back again.
