104. Safe Bombing

Word has it that the General in charge of our forces in Afghanistan is trying to minimize loss of life, a good thing. However, if he is putting American troops deeper in harms way to accomplish this, it may not be so good.

Air Force ground support aircraft are supposed to look for an open area to drop their bombs … to frighten the Taliban away, if there are civilians suspected to be in the area. They should make a run at the enemy forces and not shoot to try and shake them up? So pilots are put into a tough position and the guys on the ground are in deeper doo doo because of these rules. Its a tough situation.

I thought we may have learned a lesson a few wars back that if we go in, we go in to win it … period, end of story. Maybe I’m wrong with what I thought I heard, I hope so. Just my opinion …

  1. Saw the stupidity of don’t shoot at them til they shoot first in VietNam. Got people and aircraft shot up then, will again.

  2. “Alpha Tree One, this is Hotel Quebec Six Actual. Do not fire unless fired upon! Over.”

“Hotel Quebec Six Actual, this is Alpha Tree One. Uh, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, sir? Over.”

“Alpha Tree One, do not fire unless fired upon is a clear order. If they fire on you, you are cleared to return fire. Over.”

“Hotel Quebec Six Actual, not firing unless fired upon is a clear sign that they got the chance to fire first, sir! Over.”

“Alpha Tree One, just do as you’re told, son. It’s not my war, so I don’t make the rules. Comply, over.”

“Hotel Quebec Six Actual, roger, out. Well boys, it’s gonna be a long day.”
